[music |Linkin Park - Don't Stay]

Am down in Melbourne. You know...my mother can be really scary around her friends. I haven't seen her this happy for quite some time. But I am SO put off beef now. Went to a steakhouse last night to celebrate the 60th of a friend of my mother.
I'm staying at a pretty nice place right now, and everyone seems to be bending over backwards to make sure we feel at ease and at home. In addition, we should be able to get some anime shopping done while we're down here. So it should be a pretty good trip.

Now, as some of you know, I've decided to organise an anime binge for the holidays. I was going to have it going for two nights, but I really don't feel like supplying food for people for that long. So here's current details:

Wednesday 6th of October
From midday onwards. So long as you leave by 5:30 on Thursday afternoon, I really don't mind how long you decide to stay. It's at my father's house, address is:
9 Trumble Street Pearce.

Stuff to bring:
This goes without saying, but will be said anyway: sleeping gear.
Food is good, and not necessarily just junk food. Be creative, cook some food for a meal so that we're not solidly eating pizza. Also, as you know I don't drink soft drink. I'll probably get some fanta and coke, but anything else is up to you guys to bring.
Another obvious point: anime. Videos of any format are fine, so are computer files, the chances are my computer is capable of playing whichever codec you're using. I do have a DVD player, but let me know if you're going to bring any foreign DVDs, so that I can get the DVD player which can handle them. Bring as much as you like, as it'll need to last us at least 24 hours.

Any questions, just ask me in whichever method you find convenient. I'll be back in Canberra by next Wednesday, but you can contact me on my mobile until then. If you don't know my number, then ask someone who does, 'cause I don't feel like putting it online. If any of the above details change, I'll post the changes. The sooner I get RSVPs the better.
Yes, this is an open invitation to all, so whoever reads this is welcome to come.

Lastly, to those whom I spoke to yesterday (you know who you are), what I spoke about will not be going ahead, and I'd appreciate it if you don't say anything about it until you see me next.

Well, for the rest of you, it's the last day of school tomorrow. Happy Holidays in advance.

W00t! Manifest photos are up. That was a really good con. Too busy though. They even had a line up for the trader's area, and had to close the doors for the cosplay because the were so many people cramming in. Anyway, if you've never seen me in my Terra costume before, check these out:

Grading tomorrow... [Aug. 6th, 2004|01:23 pm]

Well...'tis Friday at last. Am intending to get a lot of sleep tonight. Not sure if my queasiness is from nerves or sleep deprivation.
I won't ask anyone to wish me luck for tomorrow, because as my instructor says, luck has nothing to do with it.

Just got the news. Clive wants me to go for blackbelt at the next grading. Not sure how I feel about it. I'll sure as hell give it all I've got though.

Be prepared. I'll be a training fanatic over next two weeks.

I have been seduced by fire.

That's the only way I can put it. Friday night I saw Cairn's firetwirling. O.M.F.G...
Canberra has nothing on these guys. Up here, fire twirling on a Friday night is actually organised by a company called 'Fireart'. By the time it starts at 8:30, they already have a huge crowd. They have a full sound system and a DJ, and there had to be at least 30 very talented firetwirlers there.

Opening act was a guy fressed in chainmail wielding a fire sword, and girl with two fire fans and a peacock style flaming headpiece.
Everyone who performed that night was incredibly talented. I was put utterly to shame, although I borrowed one girl's firestaff and twirled once anyway.
There was one guy who was spinning two staffs, and at one point during his act crossed the staffs above him, leaned his head back and breathed fire straight up.
There was also a girl dressed in sequens who was spinning two staffs blindfolded.

Through most of it I was talking to an interesting guy. His name is Paul, but he apparently has the nickname 'phoenix'. For two reasons; 1) He runs a very similar organization to Fireart down in Melbourne called Phoenix, and 2) his first form of firedancing was getting paid 1k to run around for 3 minutes in a flaming bird costume.
He told me about some of the interesting people he's seen before. He talked about two guys who spar together with fireswords (both are blackbelt martial artists), people who use fire maces, and a guy who wears welder's gloves and spins a staff made entirely of wick.

Am seriously considering moving up to Cairns after I finish college just so that I can learn from these people.

....an update *shock horror* [Jul. 6th, 2004|09:39 pm]

[music |Subterranean Homesick Alien - Radiohead]

Okay, for those of you who cared (or even knew) that I'm up in Cairns, this is what has been happening for the last few days:

I've been in a house full of christians since I got up here, including a priest (who has been giving me evil looks since the moment he saw me). In some ways it's been a little trying...the priest and and two very nice people left today. All in all, the atmosphere here is good.

However, I have finally seen the infamous horror of my uncle's house. This has got to be the most disgusting place I have ever seen anyone live in. Imagine every possible feature you might find in a 'B' grade horror movie (execpt for the fake skeletons and the pools of blood), and you're likely to find it in here. The place is full of endless spiderwebs, cockraoch eaten crap, and enough dust to load a truck with.
On the first morning of work, I spent about tenty minutes sweeping down the top step out the back door, That step is now the cleanest place in the whole house. For two days now me and mum have been up there cleaning for nearly twelve hours. Most areas of me hurt, and I flatly refuse to use the toilet there (if you saw it you'd understand), so that's also somewhat awkward. Frankly I'm surprised the whole thing hasn't collapsed by now...

Well, tommorrow we're taking my uncle into town so that the public trustees can tell him that he can't keep anything in the house, so that's going to be interesting. By the looks of the workload thus far, we're going to be working like this until we get back to Canberra, although mum says she's still planning to get some time off.

To respond to highlystrung's comment, no I am not faking a lack of internet access. This is the first opportunity I've had since getting up here to get online.

And also, 'just to put this out to the masses', Alex and I broke up on Friday. Don't anyone bother asking me about this, I really don't feel like talking about it yet. Don't bother harrassing Alex either, 'cause I can guarantee you he won't say anything.
For those who are curious, I'll probably tell you about it when I get back.
ugh....fantastic week it's been.

Happy Holidays...

Sisters are insane [Apr. 18th, 2004|12:29 pm]

[mood |aggravatedaggravated]
[music |Bz]

I just remembered stuff from last night, so I'm gonna make this a rant about my sisters. Cathy called last night, and was talking to me about boyfriends for quite some time.
Okay, just to remind the people who may forgotten, and to inform the people who do not already know. Cathy is 29 years old. She has been dating her new boyfriend for a month and a half now. But her boyfriend as it turns out....is 17 years old. To further matters, he was born in the same year as me.
Ugh..I think there's enough said there. Cathy is crazy. I was talking to my mother about that last night, and why the whole 'cradle snatching' thing is a double standard. She said it's because we expect the boy to be older, and that women supposedly mature faster, and so they're attracted to someone more mature. Still, if this holds true that we're attracted to someone of equal maturity, then it proves a point about Cathy I've beeen trying to make for several years.
*sighs* On the upside, she DOES seem to like him quite a lot, so as long as it works for them...
Helen as far as I know is the same as always. I can tell because when Cathy told her about her new boyfriend the first and only question Helen asked was 'Is he a Christian?'.
I don't think Diana knows yet, but the whole 'her being in Thailand' thing might have something to do with that. Maybe I'll email her. It's currently around new year in Thailand, and everyone has a massive water fight in the street. I thought it sounded quite fun.

Bleh...Yurika's making breakfast...she wanted me to make it again, and I made her do it. Mum's off doing something else...but very soon I will have her in front of the playstation learning how to play FFVIII. Hopefully she'll stay awake this time.

Anyone wanna go ice skating tommorrow?

Am sooooo very happy. Have way too much energy. Public holiday = no Tae Kwon Do.

Also Penny has put me in an incredibly good mood. Am just really, really happy for her. You rock Penny!
Goddam I have not been this high for way too long. Maybe I should stop with the sugar intake. Damn Easter.

Anime binge tomorrow! Spent more time on the phone today than I have in the past six months probably. Am still not finished chasing people up. Craziness. I think I'll wear my Terra costume for a little while. Provided nobody starts opening windows. Stockings = coldness. See Penny, at least if you came as a moogle you'd be in the perfect costume for cold weather.

...am also really missing Alex. And it's still five days 'til he gets back. Ah well. Tonight's news from Penny and anime binge tomorrow have cheered me up somewhat.
I have a lot to look foward to.
